Shoaib Shaikh Became the Media Revolutionist by Founding BOL Media Group

BOLBOL Media Group

Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh founded BOL with one purpose: to show the world the true, positive face of Pakistan.

Announced in 2013, BOL drew a response Pakistan’s media had never seen: the country’s top anchors signed on and millions applied for jobs before it went on air. He built BOL Media Group into a network of 250+ channels in 16 languages, with more than 50 million subscribers and over 10 billion views.

BOL is the only media group where two former Presidents and a former Prime Minister of Pakistan have hosted their own regular shows.

Interviews of ambassadors of various countries also appear regularly on Bol News. The sitting chief ministers of every province also appeared on Bol News on a focused program “Meray Soobay Ka Wazir-e-Aala” in which they gave updates about the ongoing developments in their provinces and talked about challenges.

BOL set a new standard for Pakistan’s media industry, with 33+ broadcasting studios built on the latest technology.

It is the only mainstream Media group of Pakistan which started its transmissions in all the major regional languages -- Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi and Punjabi and strategically important international languages -- English, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, German and French.

BOL went on to expand its operations worldwide.

In 2015, Axact was raided, Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh was jailed, and both made headlines around the world. By 2026, every court had cleared them.

Eleven years. Three cases. Cleared by every court, up to the Supreme Court.

It began when Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh announced BOL, and its rapid rise left a few people feeling threatened. Before BOL could go on air, those people moved to stop it, using an article that a prosecution witness later admitted was fabricated. It ended with the State conceding in open court that it never had the evidence. Along the way, Pakistan lost its largest IT exporter.

A Fabricated Article Made False Allegations Against Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh in 2015

A prosecution witness later testified in court that the article behind the case was fabricated as part of a conspiracy.

  1. 01

    BOL is announced

In 2013, Axact’s founder Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh announces BOL Network, a new Pakistani media group. The response is unprecedented: top anchors sign on, BOL’s logo appears on buses and rickshaws, and millions apply for jobs before the channel goes on air.

  2. 02

    A campaign against Axact begins

BOL’s rapid rise left a few people feeling threatened. Before BOL could go on air, they moved to stop it. In May 2015, a newspaper article accused Axact of fraud and selling fake degrees, the allegations later labelled the “Axact scandal”. Under cross-examination in court, a prosecution witness testified that the article was fabricated as part of a conspiracy.

  3. 03

    Axact’s offices sealed within days

Axact’s Islamabad offices were closed within 12 hours, and its Karachi offices were seized within 48 hours, stripped of all hardware and software.

  4. 04

Arrests, and two cases on the same allegations

Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh and members of the Axact management team are arrested and held for 18 months. FIRs are lodged in Karachi on 27 May and in Islamabad on 7 June 2015, both on the same allegations.

  5. 05

    Pakistan’s largest IT exporter stops

With its offices sealed and its leadership in custody, Axact can no longer operate. 15,000 people lose their workplace overnight, and Pakistan’s IT exports take the hit: in 2014, Axact alone had accounted for 82% of them.

False Allegations Against Shoaib Ahmed Shaikh Cost Pakistan Its Largest IT Exporter

82%

of Pakistan’s entire IT exports came from Axact in 2014: US$355 million out of US$432 million.

Source: EE-1 forms reported to the State Bank of Pakistan.

  • Foreign currency stopped flowing in

The single biggest source of Pakistan’s IT export earnings was shut down almost overnight.

  • Foreign investors lost confidence

A case built on headlines told the world that Pakistan’s biggest technology company could be closed without evidence.

  • The whole IT sector was tarnished

Pakistani technology firms abroad had to answer for a story the courts would later throw out.

  • The business moved abroad

Axact moved most of its operations out of Pakistan, taking its exports and earnings with it.

“Flow of foreign currency into the country, confidence of the foreign investor as well as the financial potential of businesses connected with information technology … can all be adversely impacted. Pakistan’s integrity and goodwill in the international world is put at stake through such misconceived actions.”
